Tuesday Aug 11 – Color War Day 1
Color War 2026 is a fierce battle between Prophets and Priests, a.k.a. Team NAVI and Team KOHEN. Blue and Green VS. Orange and Yellow! Let the games (and hoarse voices) begin 😊
Kima was at 7:30 this morning and somehow, for some reason 😉 everyone was on time for tefilah. Ha! The excitement for these next two days was palpable and very audible during breakfast. The parts of tefilah that our tzevet usually contributes – a halacha yomit and an explanation about a tefilah – are provided by the teams during Color War. And Toranut in the Chadar Ochel is done by team, not by bunk. The toranut is not only about setting up, serving and cleaning up, but also about decorating the Chadar Ochel in some way that reflects the team names and themes AND a dvar torah at each meal! After breakfast, we had shiur-as-usual. Today everyone learned about famous prophecy moments from Shmuel HaNavi and Natan haNavi, the prophets who gave Hashem’s messages to King Shaul and King David.
The chanichim enjoyed races and sports competitions in the morning, followed by team marches before lunch. After a team meeting and some menucha, the whole camp met in Indoor World for a massive game of Machanayim, followed by some more competitions, including a Master Chef “cook off”, climbing wall races and swim races. After another round of Team meetings, marches-before-dinner, dinner and Maariv, the night tochnit was an “Olympiada” which was held in Indoor World. The teams sent representatives to complete tasks in a minute-to-win-it style. Fun, healthy competition and very very entertaining. Tomorrow will be more competitions and games AND the prep for the final presentations. More about that tomorrow! We are enjoying watching each teams’ four 14-year-old captains lead them to victory!
Machal spent the day at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC (followed by a sicha) and then had a few hours to walk around the National Mall (lovingly nicknamed “America’s front yard”), visiting the Smithsonian museums. They had pizza dinner at their Rosh Hava Shafner’s house in DC (Huge “Thank you” to the Shafners for hosting Machal for this pizza party!! ) and then went off to SkyZone for a fun night activity.
