Kima this morning was a bit later than usual (8:00 am), giving everyone a chance to catch up on some sleep after last night’s unforgettable night Tochnit. Campers were also treated to a fan-favorite breakfast: Cinnamon “Stuff”—always a guaranteed way to start the day off right!
In shiur, campers continued this week’s exploration of the different Jewish military groups in Israel, focusing on one of the most challenging questions facing the Jewish community in pre-state Israel: resistance. When is it important to obey the laws of the government, and when might there be a responsibility to resist? Through historical examples and Torah sources, campers discussed the difficult balance between respecting authority and standing up for deeply held values. These are complex questions that occupied Jewish leaders nearly a century ago and continue to be relevant today.
The rest of the morning followed our regular schedule…until the weather decided to keep us on our toes! Although everyone knows it never rains at Camp Stone, we briefly switched to our rainy-day schedule. Of course, our campers made the most of it. Some highlights included Cherokee, an epic Eidah Gimmel boys’ water fight, Pickled Basketball (a surprisingly competitive combination of pickleball and basketball), and, naturally, plenty of mud sliding.
Before long, the sun was shining again, and campers headed off to their regular chuggim. One favorite is Island Chug, a true “mini vacation” in camp where campers relax with piña coladas, go fishing, and enjoy a slower pace. Another popular option is Build-a-Burger, where campers put a creative twist on the word “burger”, using a burger bun but anything but a burger inside. Today’s challenge was pizza burgers, while previous weeks have featured everything from sushi burgers to ice cream burgers. The creativity—and the appetites—never disappoint!
The evening concluded with one of the most anticipated events of the summer. Since everyone has been caught up in the excitement of the World Cup, camp hosted its very own international soccer match: Team Pluganda (our incredible tzevet) versus Team Israel (hadracha). The competition was intense, the cheering was loud, and the energy was contagious. Then, a disagreement broke out on the field. The referees reached into their pockets to issue a red card…only to discover they had every color card except red! With no red card available, there was only one logical solution:
COLOR WAR!!!
The entire camp erupted with excitement as the long-awaited announcement was made. The surprise, the cheering, and the energy made for an unforgettable ending to an already fantastic day. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings as Color War officially gets underway!
