Today we learned about Karaites and the their rejection of Oral Law.
Hot off the presses: The Village opened today!!
For all who don’t know, “the village” is at the northwest corner of camp, in the woods…it is a small world of ancient activities and arts. Each session in camp we give it a name, a time in history and invite the chanichim into that world. This month the Village is Cordoba, a city in Spain during “the Golden Age of Spain,” an era the chanichim learned about in Shiur. Each bunk will have a few chances to visit the Village. This month’s activities are: micrography, candle-making, ancient medieval games, grape juice making from fresh grapes (with our hands to actually drink, and then “just for fun” with our feet!!), leather book marks, glass washing cups in our glassblowing studio, coat hooks with our blacksmith, pita in our brick oven and fried donuts (invented during this time we are studying).
In Kaytana, the chanichim went back a little, to before Yosef, and had a wedding with Yaakov and Rachel -dancing, good food, decorations, the works!! Their peulot included volleyball, swim, and music for the banim and dance, slip n’s slide and beading for the banot.
