Big day!! Not only was it the last “real day” of camp, but the U.N. voted on the Partition Plan – well, back on Nov 29, 1947 but it felt like it was happening again here in Camp Stone today!
The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine was a proposal by the United Nations, which recommended a partition of Mandatory Palestine at the end of the British Mandate. The UN General Assembly adopted the plan after a tense vote.
As the culmination of our Shivat Zion tochnit this session, where we have traveled through the years 1880 – 1947, each bunk tonight represented a country with their flag in hand. When it was their turn they voted or abstained. Ask your child(ren) how it felt to be determining The Jewish People’s future with a vote. The tally was made and we celebrated with 10 abstentions, 13 against and 33 for!! A celebration was in order…
All chanichim in Eidot Aleph-Daled were led to a fun carnival with a dunk tank for roshei eidah and the roshei moshava, 4 bouncy house/obstacle course/race inflatables, and some carnival treats: snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn. Everyone enjoyed having fun together and creating a few last memories from this session.
Today was also the day for chanichim to come to the stoneware shack and buy stoneware!! Each bunk had a turn to come buy our t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Machal had a day of biking in Presque Isle State Park (a beautiful 3,200 acre park on a peninsula that juts out into lake Erie).
No wants to say the words packing, luggage or buses, but we will have to use all of those words tomorrow The crying already started during seudah shlishit yesterday, as we enjoyed the beautful, inspiring and emotional “slow shira” for the last time this summer. It all went by soooo fast!!
