Shavua Tov! After a beautiful shabbat and fun motzei shabbat night activites last night, we were given a little extra sleep this morning and kima was 8:00! Aaaahhh….. We learned about the hand of G-d in history. We wanted the chanichim to recognize that since we no longer have prophets telling us what is right and what is wrong, the two things we have are (1) the Torah – Hashem’s revealed word – to guide us, and (2) our ability to frame momentous events as Hashem’s providence in the world. The chanichim reviewed times in history when foreign leaders were part of our Jewish story unfolding – Cyrus allowing Jews to return and build their Beit haMikdash, Achashveirosh and Esther, and Lord Balfour in 1917.  The chanichim were asked where they have seen or felt “yad Hashem” in their own personal or family stories and lives. Our two Roshei Beit Midrash Elza Koslowe and Beni Romm create and write the shiurim for each morning’s shiur. They are consistently giving our Morim topics, sources and even triggers and games that are relevant, thought-provoking and inspiring. Each day’s shiur relates to the time period we are studying (1880 – 1947), is tied to the skit the Roshei Eidah perform that day at shekem and relates to the night activity – when the Roshei Eidah choose to play a game or run an activity that is history-related in some creative way. Kol haKavod on a hard job well done!

We had a full day of peulot, with a sunny warm day. The chanichim are calculating and know that the chutz is coming up….but nothing was announced at Aruchat Eser today. Hmmm…. At shekem, the Roshei Eidah started to act out the Balfour Declaration and chanichim were sure this was some sort of “break out” for a trip. When “Lord Balfour” said “you all should go to…” the chanichim anticipated some fun big breakout…..but alas, it was just “to chugim!!” So we await the exciting plans for the week.

Tonight, after dinner, we had an Erev Shira, with our camp musicians and slides with words of old classic Israeli songs: Yo-Ya, Al Kol Eileh, BaShana haBa’a etc. Such a great wholesome evening of singing, friendship and love for our nation and our homeland. Kaytana had a great day at Midway Amusement park, followed by a trip to get ice cream. Bumper cars, bumper boats, the Pirate Ship, tea cups, skee ball, pin ball, you name it, they rode it and played it.  We cannot believe these youngest campers will be packing tomorrow ☹

(Just one taste – a Jewish politician bought this piece of land, hoping to settle it as the new homeland for the Jews!!)  Machal had a sicha, discussing the plan for this piece of land and why it might not have been successful. They returned to machane to sleep and will head out towards DC tomorrow.

About the Chanukah Raffle

Dear Camp Stone Community,

It is an incredible feeling to reconnect with everyone once again at the beginning of our 2021 camp season.

We are writing to you today, first and foremost, to express tremendous gratitude.

Hakarat HaTov, literally “recognizing the good”, is an important and fundamental principle in our community. We, at Camp Stone, want to express our Hakarat HaTov to everyone receiving this email for your unwavering support, especially this past summer. Whether you provided financial assistance through your donated tuition dollars, participated in Indoor World, or connected with the Camp Stone community in other ways, together we had an incredibly successful, albeit different, summer experience.

There is no substitute for being in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, and this summer, B’ezrat Hashem, we will be back at Camp Stone, in person, in full force.

To achieve that goal, we must continue to ensure the financial success of our home away from home that we all know and love so deeply. The logo on top, featuring the slogan “Stone. Forever.” also features a Ner Tamid, an “eternal flame.” The year 1969, etched into the logo, is the year camp was founded. Symbolically, the overall image represents the idea that Camp Stone began many years ago and must endure forever, always burning brightly, and always an integral part of our collective conscience.

On that note, we are excited to announce that our annual Chanukah Campaign will be a raffle taking place over all 8 nights of Chanukah with prizes for both campers and parents/alumni!!
