Wed July 30

DATE: July 31, 2025

This morning we learned about the important role the Holocaust played in the State of Israel’s founding, and we discussed how Israel helped the Jewish people “emerge from the ashes” in both a literal and spiritual sense. We explored three answers: Israel provided a refuge for those fleeing the horrors of the holocaust, Israel symbolized a nation reborn and the triumph of life over death, and Israel restored G-d reputation in the world and made a huge kiddush Hashem.  Again, every age group was able to address this topic in whatever way felt appropriate to the shiur teacher. The Roshei Eidah had a little skit/shtick going all day, where they were searching for Adolf Eichmann to bring him to trial. They finally caught him in the late afternoon over at the shekem shack and put him on trial before dinner (Reminiscent, of course of his capture on May 11 1960, in Argentina). You will not believe the pictures of that skit, trust me!

The day, overall, was full of regular fun peulot: from Archery to Zipline 🙂

To review, a regular day looks like this:
kima (wake-up) at 7:30, mifkad-by-eidah, tefilah, breakfast, nikayon (clean-up), shiur, 3 peulot, mincha, lunch, short menucha (rest/quiet time), 2 peulot, shekem, a peulah, showers, hachanot erev (hang out, write letters, chill before dinner), camp-wide mifkad, dinner, maariv, night tochnit, layla tov!
**Put those words on flash cards, mix them up and see if you can order them correctly in 30 seconds!

Since most chanichim stayed up late at the lina last night, all the younger campers skipped a night activity tonight and went right to bed! Eidot gimmel and daled had a short eidah game/activity and then were happy to go to sleep….zzz…..Layla Tov Sugar Grove! Good to be back in our beds…

Kaytana learned about Yitro and the mishkan today in shiur. The common theme was asking for help and working together. They had regular peulot, but then in the late afternoon they relived Matan Torah and the giving of the Luchot. The role of Moshe was played by our visiting scholar in residence, Rav Nati Helfgot, Rav of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Teaneck NJ and high school teacher at SAR. The Kaytana bunks celebrated their recieving of the Torah with a cheesecake party!

Machal was ….yup, on a hike today (Tracy Ridge) and then… yup, had a picnic lunch, and then… yup, slept out in a camp ground (Willow Bay). In all seriousness, they are doing great, building their own community, bonding, challenging themselves, pushing themselves, helping each other and having a lot of fun. We love seeing them on Shabbat (and they make a very loud and obvious entrance into the pre-shabbat mifkad, so you can’t miss their return to machane!) You will see pics as soon as they send them. The office is in touch with them 24/7, and our mitbach sends them their food with a Machal driver who is at their service!

How is it Thursday already??

About the Chanukah Raffle

Dear Camp Stone Community,

It is an incredible feeling to reconnect with everyone once again at the beginning of our 2021 camp season.

We are writing to you today, first and foremost, to express tremendous gratitude.

Hakarat HaTov, literally “recognizing the good”, is an important and fundamental principle in our community. We, at Camp Stone, want to express our Hakarat HaTov to everyone receiving this email for your unwavering support, especially this past summer. Whether you provided financial assistance through your donated tuition dollars, participated in Indoor World, or connected with the Camp Stone community in other ways, together we had an incredibly successful, albeit different, summer experience.

There is no substitute for being in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, and this summer, B’ezrat Hashem, we will be back at Camp Stone, in person, in full force.

To achieve that goal, we must continue to ensure the financial success of our home away from home that we all know and love so deeply. The logo on top, featuring the slogan “Stone. Forever.” also features a Ner Tamid, an “eternal flame.” The year 1969, etched into the logo, is the year camp was founded. Symbolically, the overall image represents the idea that Camp Stone began many years ago and must endure forever, always burning brightly, and always an integral part of our collective conscience.

On that note, we are excited to announce that our annual Chanukah Campaign will be a raffle taking place over all 8 nights of Chanukah with prizes for both campers and parents/alumni!!

Please go back to the web page  to purchase raffle tickets and help us achieve 100% participation from our entire camp community!

Looking forward to being in touch with all of you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Yakov & Estee, Co-Directors
