Wed Aug 14 – Color War Day 2

DATE: August 14, 2025

Second Day of color was intense – our chanichim were in it to win it! We had a little drizzle of rain and off a few times throughout the day, but for the most part the weather cooperated and it was a great day.

Shiur today was about the team names again – not what they have in common but rather in what ways are they different. What do settlers of yishuvim and pioneers of kibbutzim disagree about? Our morim raised the issue of location, population, government, and economy. The shiurim gave the chanichim more material to work with as they wrote cheers, a song for final presentations and their Divrei Torah at meals.

Our schedule, on the second day, included sports activities and swimming races, just like the first day, but then in the afternoon we had a huge camp-wide Chidon in the Indoor Beit Knesset. The questions came from this month’s morning shiurim topics as well as some general Jewish questions. Towards the evening everyone participated in a 90-minute Apache Race that had 44 elements, requiring the help of individuals at some point (race up the climbing wall) and the whole team at other times (the water brigade). Every part of camp was used – each field, archery, the agam, the pool, the ropes course…each team tried its hardest to get to the end first, but it was Team Kibbutz who made it, with their baton, to the finish line with the win!

Afrer dinner, we all went to Final Presentations in Indoor World. Each team presented a boys’ rikud, a girls’ glow dance, a team song, a skit, a daglanut (flag dance) and the following painted projects: a shelet (team sign on wood), a mechitza, an adirondack chair and a garbage can.  Team Orbit presented a song and our FIDF group came on stage to say thank you for this wonderful week they are having and we all sang with them. (Today they are off to Niagara Falls and tomorrow they head out to Cleveland for Shabbat) It took two hours to get through all of the presentations, and then we had to wait a little while, as they finished calculating points to declare the winner… Finally they were ready to declare the winner…and they told us….. it was…. Team…. KIBBUTZ! Congrats to all of our Eidah Daled captains and their hadracha who were a huge source of support and to all the creative and artistic song-writers, painters and choreographers among the campers and staff who did a great job with all the elements of the teams’ final presentations.

After three very busy and packed days, we are looking forward to returning to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow 🙂 And we can’t wait to see Machal; they will return, from Virgina,  for a freshly grilled- celebratory BBQ dinner in camp.

About the Chanukah Raffle

Dear Camp Stone Community,

It is an incredible feeling to reconnect with everyone once again at the beginning of our 2021 camp season.

We are writing to you today, first and foremost, to express tremendous gratitude.

Hakarat HaTov, literally “recognizing the good”, is an important and fundamental principle in our community. We, at Camp Stone, want to express our Hakarat HaTov to everyone receiving this email for your unwavering support, especially this past summer. Whether you provided financial assistance through your donated tuition dollars, participated in Indoor World, or connected with the Camp Stone community in other ways, together we had an incredibly successful, albeit different, summer experience.

There is no substitute for being in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, and this summer, B’ezrat Hashem, we will be back at Camp Stone, in person, in full force.

To achieve that goal, we must continue to ensure the financial success of our home away from home that we all know and love so deeply. The logo on top, featuring the slogan “Stone. Forever.” also features a Ner Tamid, an “eternal flame.” The year 1969, etched into the logo, is the year camp was founded. Symbolically, the overall image represents the idea that Camp Stone began many years ago and must endure forever, always burning brightly, and always an integral part of our collective conscience.

On that note, we are excited to announce that our annual Chanukah Campaign will be a raffle taking place over all 8 nights of Chanukah with prizes for both campers and parents/alumni!!

Please go back to the web page  to purchase raffle tickets and help us achieve 100% participation from our entire camp community!

Looking forward to being in touch with all of you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Yakov & Estee, Co-Directors
