Tuesday July 2
Today all of our chanichim, hadracha and tzevet left for the Machane Chutz!
We have officially “set up camp” a 15 min walk from camp -and our director Yakov Flesichmann and some of our security team moved out there as well!
But let me tell you how they broke it out:
We learned about machloket in shiur today, i.e. how the chassidim were being challenged by the mitnagdim (lit, “those who oppose”) regarding the chassidim’s laxity with regard to certain halachot. For example, the chassidim were not stringent about times for tefilah. They would daven shacharit way later than the time determined to be the “end time” for shacharit. Can people get along even though they disagree? The shiur contained a story about the deep friendship that existed between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Rav Soloveitchik. And between Beit Hille and Beit Shamai. So…on that note, the two Roshei Moshava had a rap-battle with Hannah dressed as a Chassid and Sammy dressedas a classic “misnaged Rebbe” – they were challenging each other and finally Sammy excommunicated Hannah, sending her off into cherem out at the Machane Chutz!! For those who know about “break outs” in camp – the point is never the surprise as much as the “how are they going to do it?” anticipation 🙂
When each eidah was packed and ready, they walked over to the chutz site and started to build up the different zones. We have a mechitza for the shul area, tents for learning and in case of rain, lots of spike ball sets, a melechet yad tent (for all sorts of arts and crafts) and so many hamocks!! The whole camp is divided into twenty small groups, called plugot. Each plugah has a few eidah daled campers who are their roshim. Together they collect fire wood and build a fire. Lunch was brought from camp, but dinner was over the grill – hot dogs and corn. It was so fun, and the whole day was relaxing and fun and bonding. Tonight we had a movie “drive-in” style with a screen and a projector. We watched Soul, a Pixar movie about finding meaning in life.
The weather cooperated and the forecast is for beautiful weather tomorrow, so B”h we are looking forward to a fun-filled day of outdoor activities and lots of fun.
Pictures will not be uploaded by eidah, since everyone is all mixed up and hanging around together. Enjoy the pics!
