Shabbat Parshat Pinchas – 1st Shabbat of Camp!

DATE: July 29, 2024

Shavua Tov!

We’ll pick up where we left off before Shabbat.

At Mifkad, the winners of nikayon were…

Drumroll please…

On the girls side: Eidah Vav Bunk Bessie Gotseld!

And on the boys side: Eidah Bet Bunk Bialik!

It was a beautiful Shabbat with lots of singing and dancing, learning and playing, and bonding and memories.

After Mifkad, we had a beautiful Kabbalat Shabbat. Camp sings almost all of Kabbalat Shabbat out loud. Following davening, the younger kids (Kaytana, Aleph, and Vav), eat Shabbat Dinner on the dining deck, have icees and go to sleep.

After davening, the older kids (Bet, Gimmel, Daled, & Machal) stay in the Beit Knesset and watch a Sha’at Shu”t, literally a moment of questions and answers. The Rav HaMachane, Rabbi Adi Krohn, and Rabbi Rick Schindelheim, along with some help from tzevet put on a skit to teach some Hilchot Shabbat. This week, they acted out the conceptual ideas of Eruvin.

After the Sha’at Shu’t, the Roshim meet campers and counselors at the Machal Bridge, where they sing and dance into the Chadar Ochel. They transition into Shalom Aleichem and Eishet Chayil, followed by Kiddush made by Yakov.

After Kiddush, the entire camp washes their hands, makes Hamotzi by table, and appetizers (this week was mini hot dogs!) are served, followed by soup.

The entire camp then gets up and sings some Zmirot. The dancing set is highlighted by one of the Roshei Moshava and Roshei Machal jumping over some garbage cans with the entire camp cheering them on.

For dessert, icees are served and Machal gives a dvar torah, which is followed by benching and Layla Tov.

On Shabbat morning, an optional breakfast is served by Yakov with lots of cereal and fruit.

After a festive davening, each Eidah has its own Kiddush with Krispy Kreme donuts. Then, each bunk is divided into parsha shiur groups. At lunch, each Eidah comes up with a cheer and shares it with the whole camp.

The entire camp then davens Mincha followed by Chevrutot, where a tzevet member is paired with one or two campers and they learn some Torah together for about 45 minutes. This is one of the most amazing things about Camp Stone. Walking around camp at this time is so cool. It’s really awesome to see people sitting and learning all over camp.

Later on, the campers gather by Eidah and play games together with their counselors.

Shabbat ends with Seudat Shlishit and Slow Shira. Slow Shira is some campers favorite time of Shabbat. It starts with Machane trivia, where the Roshei Moshava ask history questions about camp, followed by fast songs, and then slow songs. Later, a story is told, and we daven Maariv.

About the Chanukah Raffle

Dear Camp Stone Community,

It is an incredible feeling to reconnect with everyone once again at the beginning of our 2021 camp season.

We are writing to you today, first and foremost, to express tremendous gratitude.

Hakarat HaTov, literally “recognizing the good”, is an important and fundamental principle in our community. We, at Camp Stone, want to express our Hakarat HaTov to everyone receiving this email for your unwavering support, especially this past summer. Whether you provided financial assistance through your donated tuition dollars, participated in Indoor World, or connected with the Camp Stone community in other ways, together we had an incredibly successful, albeit different, summer experience.

There is no substitute for being in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, and this summer, B’ezrat Hashem, we will be back at Camp Stone, in person, in full force.

To achieve that goal, we must continue to ensure the financial success of our home away from home that we all know and love so deeply. The logo on top, featuring the slogan “Stone. Forever.” also features a Ner Tamid, an “eternal flame.” The year 1969, etched into the logo, is the year camp was founded. Symbolically, the overall image represents the idea that Camp Stone began many years ago and must endure forever, always burning brightly, and always an integral part of our collective conscience.

On that note, we are excited to announce that our annual Chanukah Campaign will be a raffle taking place over all 8 nights of Chanukah with prizes for both campers and parents/alumni!!

Please go back to the web page  to purchase raffle tickets and help us achieve 100% participation from our entire camp community!

Looking forward to being in touch with all of you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Yakov & Estee, Co-Directors
