Friday – Hike Day
On Fridays in Machane Stone, we wake up a little earlier to get a head start on a very busy day! After tefillah and breakfast, we have a “sandwich-making party” that your children will have to explain to you! Picture music, dancing and singing – all while making cheese and wow-butter sandwiches. It is one of the highlights of the week here 🙂
Shiur today was about the Jewish calendar and how Eretz Yisrael and Bavel were at odds about who should be setting the calendar, when so many Jews were living in Bavel. The chanichim talked about important calendar dates in their families and what it would be like if families were celebrating on different days.
Next up: grab your water bottle, sunscreen and hat and meet up at the site being announced over the ram-kol (loudspeaker)!! While the chanichim are off on hikes and lunch picnics, the tzevet cleans the camp – and is then rewarded with time to swim in the pool.
The hikes were as follows:
Kaytana – berry picking (we will enjoy the berries at seudah shlishit!)
Alef – a hike and a chance to buy ice cream at a Perry’s shack. Yum!!
Vav – a hiking trail near camp
Bet – a hike that brings them to the Dollar Store where they can spend a little money on some Shabbat snacks 🙂
Gimmel – a hike to the Chutz site
Daled – a hike which ends at a Tops supermarket where they can spend some money
Machal returned to camp this morning to grab their water shoes and then left for a 4-mile water hike.
Great day and we are psyched for Shabbat!! Lots of spirited davening and eating, all with singing and dancing, await us! Shabbat Shalom from Sugar Grove, PA.
